Permanent bookmarks
How do you make a permanent bookmark for a Pitas entry?
Easy. Once a story is archived, it has a permanent web
page location. You could just link to the archive page,
but then you might point to many stories, not just one.
To be able to link to an individual story within an archive
page,
use the Pitas option to Change the format of each entry to create a sub-page anchor for each story
using the <A NAME=xxx> tag.
I used the "pagename" (i.e., title)
as the anchor.
Here is my story template:
<P>
<hr>
<a name="%%pagename%%"></a>
<p align=right>
<small>%%date%% %%time%%</small>
</p>
<A HREF="%%url%%"><b>%%pagename%%</b></A>
<p>%%entry%%</P>
If you click the link on this story, or the Open
link in the upper left corner of the page, you will
go to a treehouse story on why building is like programming.
The link is "12_11_1999.html#Building is like programming",
which combines the archive page name and the story anchor.
How do you create a permanent link to a story before
you archive it? The only way is to decide in advance
what the archive file name will be (i.e., number your
archive files a01.html, a02.html, etc.). But even then
the link will not actually work until you have archived
the current page.

llama at the treehouse
Point Reyes, California:
Having
grown up in Marin County,
my memories include Point Reyes. Once I took the
family car with a friend and went surfing. We parked at the
almost-opened Point Reyes National Seashore parking lot, and watched seals surfing in huge waves along the coast. It
was too rough for us and there was no one else around.
When we got back to the parking lot, I had left the lights
on and run the battery down. And the nearest farmhouse was
a mile away. And it was raining. And it was a public holiday. And the only gas station (about 15 miles away) was closed.
Another time our high school got into some kind of a
challenge involving the President and the Marines
and attempted a mass 50 mile hike to Point Reyes and back (I made
it about 35 miles).

Earl's treehouse
"To get to the tree you will walk into the swamp and across the covered bridge at the bottom then half way up is a small deck. To enter the treehouse you must climb and enter a trap door in the kitchen."

If you are starting a Pita weblog, then
visit this review of Pitas by Jennifer:
"When everybody has a weblog of weblogs, weblogs of weblogs will be useless..." Then read the weblog FAQ.

Stone money and thatched huts
Still want a wooden walkway to my treehouse. Check
this one at "Pathways Cottages" on the island of Yap.
My wife has always wanted to go to Yap. Most traditional
place left in the Pacific.
From the Yap Tourist Info Page:
In Yap toplessness is common and socially acceptable, but it is considered highly offensive for
women to bare their thighs in Public. Short shorts, bikinis and miniskirts are a definite no-no. [Color emphasis
from the original.]

The Ring Cycle
If click the New link on my menu in the upper
left corner of this page, you will enter the first of
my daily web-browsing
bookmarks. Like a personal webring.
The links are maintained by an on-line web service
known as Nibelung. Once into my ring, you click
"Next" to see the next site or "List" to see other sites that I want to remember, but not visit in a ring
cycle (i.e, my bookmarks!)

Spider Web Treehouse Hotel, Vietnam
"Without a doubt,
the most original
hotel in all of Vietnam. Or the universe. Some say
it’s tacky and you can’t quite disagree. But the cheesy tackiness
of it all is also its absolute charm.
Your room is actually in a tree. No, not a real
tree. A cement one, and solid. You may feel like
a gnome inside a giant mushroom..."

No way will he last a year
DotComGuy plans to spend a year without leaving his house, getting everything from the Internet. He is great at PR, since
I read about him on BBC News, but not so
great at technology. His web site
is a Y2K disaster (in all browsers).
From his home page on January 3rd, 2000:
Update: by Tuesday, June 4, 2000, the date errors
were fixed on this site. Seems like the support team
came back to work.
